Friends of the School

The Friends of QEGS are a registered charity. Charity Number: 1050797.

Who are we?

The Friends of QEGS is a group which meets with the aim of raising funds which are used to enhance facilities in school for the benefit of the pupils. When a child attends Queen Elizabeth’s their parents automatically become members of “The Friends”.

Most of our members are parents of children at the school but non-parents of all ages and gender are positively encouraged to join us.

What do we do?

In recent times, via a varied programme of fundraising events we have raised money, which has been made available to the school to buy items voted for by the student council or requested by staff that are extra to the normal budget.

During the last year the fund has provided:

  • Electronic revision notes along with a site licence for English, Maths and Science
  • Micro centrifuge – Science department
  • Ripple tanks – Science department
  • Oven – DT food technology department
  • 9 digital video cameras – whole school use
  • Hurdles and starting blocks – PE department

We take part in, or organise events throughout the year. Previous ventures include:

Annual Christmas Fair
Raffle & Tombola.

Summer Fete
Raffle & Tombola.

EasyFundraising
A website you can join on behalf of QEGS to buy goods online with many well-known brands and stores that give donations to school at no extra cost to you. There is also a search engine which raises money for school for each completed search you do, again this is free to use.

Concert refreshments
Serving refreshments at the interval with donations.

Carol Concert refreshments
Not a fund raiser, but helping out serving refreshments at this pre-Christmas tradition.

Ink Cartridge Recycling
When you replace your ink cartridges at home or work, QEGS provide you with envelopes to send these to an Alford based recycling company who pay school for each one received. The bags are postage paid so again there is no cost to you and a benefit to school (sample bag enclosed). Extra bags are easily ordered by phone, online or by using the enclosed order form.

Want to join?

We are always keen to welcome new members to our meetings or events so if you feel that you could give a little of your time to help in this way, have suggestions for future events or would just like to know more, please speak to our chair Jane Banham who can be contacted via school or email jane.banham@btopenworld.com

Our next meeting
